The Yonkers Police Department has arrested two young males responsible for the August 22, 2023, daytime shooting that took place in the area of 1 Schroeder Street.

Just after 2:00 PM yesterday afternoon, the Yonkers Police Department responded to the area of 1 Schroeder Street in this City on a report of a male who was shot. Upon arrival, units located one 21-year-old male victim who suffered one gunshot wound to each leg. The male is a Yonkers resident who will not be identified at this time. Medical aid was rendered to this victim, and he was transported to an area hospital in stable condition.

Detectives from the Major Case Squad, Crime Scene Unit, Digital Forensics Unit, and Field Investigation Division responded to the scene to investigate. This investigation yielded that two suspects arrived at that location in a vehicle and fired several gunshots at the victim, their intended target, before they fled the scene.

Detectives identified and located this vehicle yesterday evening. In doing so, they apprehended one of the suspects, a 17-year-old Yonkers resident, and later, the second suspect, a 15-year-old Yonkers resident.

The males were subsequently charged and arraigned in the Youth Part of Westchester County Court. These suspects are under the age of 18 and, therefore, will not be publicly identified due to current laws restricting the release of this information. Both individuals were charged with Attempted Murder 2nd, Attempted Assault 1st, Assault 2nd, and Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd. Both males remain in custody.

“I applaud our Detectives for once again demonstrating that Yonkers is not the place to commit violent crime,” said Yonkers Police Department Commissioner Christopher Sapienza. “Our members had suspects in custody within hours of this shooting, taking two violent individuals off the street. Once again, we find ourselves at the conclusion of a violent incident involving minors. We need the support of our community and our families to stress to our youth that violence is not the answer.”
